'Tis the season
I was starting to feel a little guilty about not posting for so long, so as an act of procrastination from cleaning my apartment, I will try for a brief update.
It has been a relatively interesting month, at least by my standards. I think the most noteworthy was the trip I took to San Francisco to attend Adobe MAX North America 2008 (photos). Basically three days of sessions, labs and workshops on topics surrounding Adobe software. It was quite enjoyable and informative.
While Jordan and I were down in San Francisco, a new hire started at work, and so some of the past month has been dedicated to making sure that he is getting up to speed properly. And of course there has been the usual bout of meetings, along with a year-end increase in work. There has also been a pleasant increase in social events with my coworkers–dinners, movies, weekend gatherings/BBQs, and perhaps the most notable, go-karting.
On the 26th of November, us IT guys at work took off shortly after lunch for an afternoon of indoor karting. It was great. I haven’t been go-karting in a long time, and while I certainly wasn’t very good at it, I didn’t come in last–not every time anyway. :) Unfortunately, since I was participating, I wasn’t able to take photos of any of the races. And I wasn’t about to take my new camera in the cart with me.
Also this past month I learned that I won’t be relocating to the UK right away, but instead spending a year in Bermuda first. While I’m not a huge fan of living in Bermuda for a year, it will certainly be easier and more productive to work on my current project from there. So I’m going to try and make the best of the situation. I’m not too worried about the winter, but the summer when the humidity and heat are bound to make things very unpleasant for me. I will also try my best to get off the island from time to time so as I don’t go stir crazy.
That move will happen sometime in January. In the mean time, I will be taking a bit of vacation around the holidays to fly home and be with my family. I am so looking forward to it that I can’t even describe it. Mentally I am starting to feel a bit burnt out. That is partially my fault, but it is the case nonetheless and I plan to take it Easy (with a capital E) while I am home.
And lastly, tonight is my office Christmas party, or as we like to call it, our Annual Dinner. Lets not mince words… it is a Christmas party. I’m looking forward to it because we have a great group of people at my company and it will be nice to enjoy a nice dinner with all of them.
To everyone, I hope your holiday season is safe and enjoyable. Felíz Navidad.
