New powerbook

With perhaps less public fanfare, but with no less love from me, I have just today picked up my second Powerbook. This 15 inch widescreen beauty is going to replace Obnauticus after almost 3 years of incredible service. Since she was my first laptop, I have nothing to compare her to personally, but she caused me no real problems and continued to be useful even this past three months in Europe when I really relied on her as my sole computer.

So now Philyra steps up to the plate to become my only computer for at least another 15 months or so until I finish my Masters. The name Philyra is from a Greek Goddess (go figure) and she was the Goddess of Perfume, Beauty, Paper, Writing and Creativity. I thought this would be appropriate. At the moment I am going through my list of applications on Obnauticus and determining which ones are worth downloading on my new laptop and which aren’t. As I go through my list, I realize that there are some new programs that I really do use on a regular basis, and that I require be on my computer. I will attempt to keep track of all the ones that are important and make a list for those people who are attempting to build up there own collection of Applications from a fresh install.

Applications which I require:

  • Skype
  • Transmit
  • EasyCrop
  • TeXShop
  • BibDesk
  • MPlayer OSX
  • SizzlingKeys
  • NetNewsWire
  • OmniGraffle
  • Smultron
  • Geektool
