iOS users must check these out
Perhaps bordering on click bait, but the sentiment is genuine. Despite being an iPhone user for many years, I hadn’t really looked into the tools available for developers on iOS until I bought a new iPad. However, each of the apps in this issue are available for both the phone and the tablet.
Also, for what it is worth, there are other apps which might appeal to developers, like nice coding editors and git clients, but they are not free. If you are interested, you can read my recent article where I discuss blogging from an iPad. In there I link to some of the apps I’m using.
Scriptable
Automate iOS using JavaScript. This is probably the app I’m most excited about. Out of the box it doesn’t really do anything, but it allows you to create scripts (written in JavaScript) which interact with native iOS features. They can be scheduled or even set as Share targets.
Dash
Dash is an API Documentation Browser that gives your iPad and iPhone instant offline access to 200+ API documentation sets. The iOS version is free, and a great offline, searchable resource for your developer documentation.
RegEx Lab
Granted there are a number of web applications you can use to play around with regular expressions, but in cases where you are offline or if you just prefer the feel of an app, you can use RegEx Lab. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t need some help when working with regular expressions, particularly if you are trying to test or debug someone else’s.
